One Index lookup request is one lookup. We do not count keystrokes.

Counts

Search, get, form and strength, packages, form-options, bottle-code and RxCUI lookup, catalog changes, freshness, and optional status documents if you call them.

On the MCP server, each tool call is one lookup: the request it makes for you. Connecting and listing the tools are free.

Does not count

Managing notice URLs, notices we send, Cabinet read and write.

Typing

Wait until they pause. Each search request is a lookup. The try-it page shows the count.

When the block is gone

1. Email at 80% of included.
2. Auto-buy on (the default) → we charge your card for another month’s lookups at your plan’s rate: the monthly price, or a twelfth of the yearly price on an annual plan. Lookups keep working while the charge goes through.
3. Auto-buy off, or the card declined → a day’s grace, then lookups stop (402 quota_exceeded).
4. Sandbox → stops at 500 a month, with no grace (402).

429 is a safety fuse, not a bill.
